Why Toronto and Vancouver?
Toronto has hosted important international events and the home of teams from various sports such as the Toronto FC (MLS), Maple Leafs (NHL), Raptors (NBA) and the Blue Jays (MLB).
In addition, it is the fourth-largest city in North America, the economic capital and the largest city in Canada. You can get to Toronto from anywhere worldwide on direct flights or with a stopover in Panama, Miami, or New York.
Meanwhile, Vancouver hosted nine matches during the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup Canada, including the final between the United States and Japan. It is also home to the MLS team Vancouver Whitecaps FC.
Vancouver is the most cosmopolitan city on the Canadian West Coast and receives tourists worldwide. It has a hotel infrastructure, roads and the largest port and airport on the West Coast.
What makes this World Cup different?
The 2026 FIFA World Cup will have a new format.
The tournament will have 48 teams, divided into twelve groups of four.
The first two in each group and the eight best third parties will qualify for the round of 32.
The new scheme establishes that the teams that reach the final must have gone through eight matches, one more than those played in the last 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
For the first time, it is celebrated in three different countries.

The United States hosted the men's FIFA World Cup in 1994.
How many times has Mexico hosted the World Cup?
Mexico has hosted the men's World Cup two other times before 2026. First, Mexico hosted the 1970 World Cup with five venues. In 1986, 12 Mexican venues obtained the honor. The Women's World Cup has never been held in Mexico.
How many times has Canada hosted the World Cup?
2026 will be the first time Canada has hosted the men's World Cup and only the third time it has appeared in the tournament. In 2015, the Women's World Cup was held in six cities across Canada, with the final held at the 2026 BC Place venue in Vancouver.
