Immigrating to Canada after 40 can be challenging, especially if skills are lacking.
What are my options?
As a Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant, let's discuss the most common question: Can you immigrate to Canada over 40? If so, you may want to give your family a better life.
Study a Master Degree:
Starting February 15, 2024, students who graduate from some master’s degree programs lasting less than two years (8 months minimum) may be eligible for a 3-year PGWP, but if they completed a nine-month program, the PGWP is for nine months.
The length of your PGWP depends on the level and duration of your study program and the expiry date of your passport, whichever comes first.
Once you graduate, the work experience may help you apply for permanent residence.
In some provinces, studying for a Master's degree may lead you to obtain the provincial nomination for permanent residence.
Get a job in Canada:
There is no age limit for a Canadian work permit as long as you demonstrate that you are capable and have the skills to perform that employment in Canada.
Canada has a labor shortage and needs workers in all areas, from health care to education, farmers, mining, engineers, construction workers, retail and supply chain workers, restaurant and hospitality workers, etc.
Business Immigration:
This is an immigration pathway for applicants over 40 with sufficient commercial expertise or financial resources to invest in Canada.
Indeed, most Canadian provinces have established business immigration programs through their provincial nomination.
Self Employed:
Being involved in art, sports, or culture would be the best way to qualify for this immigration avenue.
Entrepreneurs:
Are you an innovative entrepreneur with the skills and potential to build businesses that may compete globally?
Can your business employ Canadians?
Atlantic Immigration Program:
It offers permanent residency for international students graduating from a post-secondary institution in the Atlantic provinces and for those with more than one year of work experience in jobs in Canada or outside of Canada.
The provinces are Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland, and Labrador. There is no points system. Therefore, the applicant’s age is not considered.
